The Latest Mikey Network News

The Cardiac Arrhythmia Network of Canada (CANet) recently published a wonderful write up of our work on their website.

After hearing a commercial for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Canada on the radio talking about our Mikey On Board program, they wanted to learn more about us and share that knowledge with their network. They wrote not only about Mikey On Board and the history of our organization, but they also profiled our many other programs that provide defibrillators to public spaces, organizations, and families in need.

Check out this excerpt below:

Listening to a Blue Jays game the other day (which in itself can give one arrhythmia), a commercial for a moving company caught my ear. It was notable because they weren’t talking about moving furniture – they were explaining that every one of their trucks is equipped with a “MIKEY”.

“There are 75 vehicles equipped with a MIKEY, and the employees are trained in how to use them,” explains Morty Henkle, Executive Director of The Mikey Network.  “And each truck has a sticker on the back, identifying that there is an AED on board.” This means that not only are the movers given peace of mind knowing that an AED is nearby, but that this fleet of trucks is identifiable as a source of help in the community in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest emergency.

You can read the rest of the article here.

Thank you CANet for such a wonderful write up! We appreciate you taking the time to educate the members of your network about The Mikey Network and Mikey On Board.

Another happy family has received a MIKEY defibrillator through our Mikey’s Kids program!

For parents with children who have heart problems, like Long QT Syndrome, having a portable defibrillator can literally be life-saving. Knowing that an AED is on hand and ready to help save their child’s life gives so much peace of mind.

We know the first few minutes of a sudden cardiac arrest event is critical to increasing chances of survival. Our Mikey’s Kids program allows children with a high risk of SCA lead a happier, healthier and more active life. These portable MIKEYs can be taken along with them anywhere – at home, at school and at play.

You can learn more about the Mikey’s Kids program and read the testimonials from Mikey Families themselves here. You can also help give these families peace of mind by donating to The Mikey Network directly.

Thank you to Sarah Cooper for sharing this photo with us. We’re always so happy to hear from another one of our Mikey’s Kids families!

Our friends at Heaven Can Wait Emergency First Aid Inc. have shared with us a wonderful video that shows the importance of CPR and AED training. Only a week after taking a CPR course from Heaven Can Wait. three heroes helped save a co-worker’s life. Check out this inspiring video.

The true story of three heroes who saved their friend’s life using CPR.

On May 29th, just eight days after taking a CPR course from Heaven Can Wait, three heroes emerged to save their co-worker’s life when he suddenly collapsed and stopped breathing. These are their stories.

By sharing this video, you can help pass the word along and help give those who suffer a sudden cardiac arrest  a second chance at life!

The 2016 Walk of Life was on Saturday and Team Mikey was out in full force. More than 300 runners and walkers were sporting their Team Mikey gear and raising funds and awareness for The Mikey Network and The Cardiac Health Foundation.

These funds are essential for us to continue our work. So far this year, we’ve raised $200,000 for the Mikey Young at Heart program. Through this program we will place 250 MIKEYs (defibrillators) in all Peel District schools.

So again, THANK YOU TEAM MIKEY!!
